South Kalimantan Province ranks among the top 8 of 26 provinces producing palm oil nationally, with palm oil plantations that capable to produce 5,340,501 tons of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) and 1,168,372 tons of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) per year. In the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) of 2025–2029, palm oil downstreaming is designated as one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN). Currently, domestic production only meets about 75% of fatty alcohol demand, and the demand is projected to grow by 5.2%. On the other hand, Indonesia currently supplies only 20% of global fatty alcohol production, with export values reaching USD 707.75 million per ton. In this project, the planned production capacity of the fatty alcohol plant is 80,000 tons per year, operating 330 days a year with a daily production capacity of 242 tons.
